Trump Dismisses Musk’s New “America Party”
Speaking to journalists in Morristown, New Jersey on Sunday, Trump emphasized his disapproval of forming an alternative political group.
"I think it's ridiculous to start a third party," Trump declared, directly addressing Musk’s announcement made the previous day.
Musk revealed the formation of the “America Party” after conducting an online poll on X, asking users whether they supported the creation of a new political entity.
Trump highlighted the achievements of the Republican Party, describing its track record as "tremendous."
He argued that America’s political landscape has traditionally been structured around two major parties, and introducing a third would only generate unnecessary “confusion.” Trump added, "He can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous."
The connection between Trump and Musk, once defined by mutual praise and cooperation, has since devolved into open hostility.
Tensions escalated when Musk openly criticized Trump’s legislative initiative, the One, Big Beautiful Bill—a sweeping tax and spending reform—calling it “utterly insane and destructive.”
In the previous month, Musk floated the idea of launching a new party by questioning his X audience about the need for a political movement that would "actually represent the 80 percent in the middle."
He later endorsed a follower’s proposal to call it the “America Party.”
This name mirrors that of the America PAC, which Musk founded last year.
The PAC, which reportedly spent USD239 million supporting Trump and other Republican candidates in the 2024 elections, shares branding with the new party initiative.
